That’s why we’re pleased to offer GeneSight® testing through our board-certified PMHNP — as an added tool to partner with you and tailor your care.

What is GeneSight® testing?

GeneSight is a pharmacogenomic test, meaning it examines certain genes in your DNA to help determine how your body may respond to psychiatric and mental-health medications.

Here’s how it works in plain language:

  • When you begin or adjust medications for depression, anxiety, ADHD or other mental-health concerns, sometimes you face a trial-and-error process. GeneSight aims to shorten that by giving additional genetic information about how you might metabolize or respond to certain medications.

  • The test analyzes (for instance) variations in genes involved in how your body breaks down medications (pharmacokinetics) and how your brain may respond (pharmacodynamics).

  • After the test, you and our PMHNP will review a personalized report showing how over 60 commonly-prescribed medications fall into categories like “Use as Directed,” “Moderate Gene-Drug Interaction,” or “Significant Gene-Drug Interaction.”

In short — it’s not a guarantee, but it is one more piece of information to help us select medications that are more likely to work for you, with fewer surprises.

How we offer it at Know Your Worth Counseling

  1. Introduction & Consultation – During your appointment with our PMHNP, we’ll discuss whether GeneSight testing is a helpful fit for your situation (for example: if you’ve had multiple medication trials, significant side-effects, or would like more precision in your care).

  2. Sample Collection – If you choose to proceed, the test involves a simple cheek-swab (or may be done via at-home kit).

  3. Lab Analysis – Your sample is sent to the certified GeneSight laboratory for analysis. Typically results are available in a few days.

  4. Review & Personalized Plan – When the results arrive, our PMHNP will review them with you. Together we’ll integrate your genetics, your history, your goals and your faith into a tailored medication plan (if medications are part of your care).

  5. Ongoing Support – Genetic testing adds information, but it doesn’t replace your story — your faith, your experiences, your therapy, your goals. We continue to walk with you, adjusting, monitoring, and empowering you.

Genesight states that many insurance plans cover the test — and for most patients the out-of-pocket cost is $330 or less if self-pay. When you work with us, you’ll have guidance every step of the way, so you’re never navigating alone.
